I am Takashi Tanemori, a survivor of Hiroshima, and a proud American citizen, the subject: “What About Pearl Harbor” is nothing, but a reflection upon our own history and my own worldview. Many years ago, I denounced my Japanese citizenship to become an American citizen, adopting the nation as my own. In dealing with a “soul-searching” subject: “What About Pearl Harbor” in the following chapters come my presentation, as a survivor of Hiroshima from the age of 8 onto man hood, both in Japan and America that has re-shaped and re-directed my life. History has unfolded through these events that changed the course of humanity.
Therefore, the subject has been presented, not from the point of a historian, nor a story of war, but as a human drama, a love affair, of two differing nations, as I have seen them through the eyes of a survivor. It is my wish that “What About Pearl Harbor” is embraced by us all, which may allow individuals from both nations, especially those who have fought one another, to see ourselves, who we really are, and to find out how war impacts not only nations, but individuals.
The ultimate goal is to find a way toward creating a safer and more peaceful world whereby all different nationalities can live side-by-side through the spirit of the Way of Samurai,” the way of love, the way of peace, the way of forgiveness and the way of service.
